- Travel Agency veteran reopens own business
Olga Ramudo and her two partners want to continue doing what they do best - take care of their customers. So Ramudo, her sister, Christina Jacomino and Ramudo's best friend, Rosa Maria DelGado reopened their travel agency, Express Travel of Miami last month.
In 2000, the trio sold the agency they had opened together in 1989 to TraveLeaders and it became TraveLeaders' Latin American Division. Through an agreement made several months ago, the three women exercised their option to separate from TraveLeaders and operate aagain as Express Travel.
"We want to control our own destiny, stay involved in day to day operations and streamline our process," said Ramudo, who is president of the agency. "That doesn't necessarily follow the guidelines of a major corporation."
TraveLeaders is a $500 million US company and is in the process of finalizing a sale to American Leisure Holdings.
"Financially, it was to our benefit to be separated," she said. "We took with us our original buisness that we brought to TraveLeaders and also kept the same staff of 18 we've had for years."
Express Travel, a minority Hispanic women owned enterprise, opened its new offices in Coral Gables.
